Petroleum Case Law Update 2020
Each year, the Petroleum Spills Committee of the Environmental & Energy Law Section of the New York State Bar Association holds an Annual Oil Spill Symposium. In 2020, the Committee celebrated its 11th year by conducting its first virtual Annual Oil Spill Symposium.
The Oil Spill Symposium is a half-day of lively interactive round table discussions. It is attended by environmental consultants, engineers, attorneys, and other environmental professionals. It is always a great place to learn about current issues related to petroleum spills and socialize with others who practice in this field in our state.
Since the Oil Spill Symposium has run for more than 10 years, this year’s topics focused on getting ‘back to the basics’ and include discussions on Liability under the Oil Spill Act, Oil Spill Reporting, and of course the annual Oil Spill Fund Update from the State Comptroller’s Office and the annual Oil Spill Act Case Law Update.
The Annual Oil Spill Act Case Law Update covered topics like liability under the Oil Spill Act, insurance, indemnity agreements, discovery and evidence in petroleum spill litigation, federal procedure, and government enforcement of petroleum spills and regulatory violations.
